What's my hair type?

It is important to know how well your hair is able to absorb and retain moisture (porosity), as everyones hair is different, and understanding how to apply our nourishing hair oil in a way that's most suited to your hair type will achieve the most desirable results.

    Low Porosity

You have low hair porosity if cuticles are closed making it more difficult for oils and moisture to penetrate

   Medium Porosity

You have medium porosity when the cuticles are more loose, allowing the right amount of moisture in and out

                 High Porosity

When you have high hair porosity the cuticles are raised allowing moisture in easily, while at the same time enabling moisture to escape easily

Test my hair porosity at home

Take a strand of clean hair and place it in a glass of water for 2-3 minutes, if the strand floats at the top of the water you have low porosity, if the strand sinks to the bottom, you have high hair porosity, and if it floats in the middle of the glass, this indicates medium porosity.

What is the best way to put oil in hair based on my hair porosity?

If you have low hair porosity, oils may take longer to penetrate the hair, and there is a risk of product buildup due to the strong cuticles, but as this oil is lightweight in formula it enables the oil to penetrate the cuticle more easily, as well as allowing you to have more of an intensive treatment by keeping the product on your hair for a longer period of time for maximum absorption, while not having to worry about product building up on your hair.  Harir hair oil contains black seed oil, one of the best essential oils for low porosity hair. *Tip. Heat helps to open cuticles, so covering hair with a towel while the oil is in your hair helps to generate heat and enhance product absorption

If you have medium hair porosity, hair usually absorbs and releases the right amount of moisture, however using the Harir lightweight oil is important as this will guarantee the optimal absorption of the hair oil, as generally with all hair types, a lightweight oil penetrates the cuticles more easily. Maintenance is also important, so in order to keep this healthy balance found in medium porosity hair, regular nourishment and care is needed to keep the hair healthy and hydrated as well as protect the hair from damage caused by the use of hair tools and chemical treatments

If you have high hair porosity, the raised cuticles can enable moisture to penetrate the hair more easily as well as allow moisture to leave the hair more easily, however consistent application of hair oil can help to smooth the cuticles over time resulting in the improved ability to absorb and retain moisture. Smoother cuticles also contribute to improved hair shine. Hair with high hair porosity causing raised cuticles can either be genetically determined or it can often be caused by the use of chemical treatments and excessive heat styling tools. This hair type requires hair oil application to provide moisture and protection to the hair fibres, improving the overall condition the more it is used. The lightweight consistency of this oil also makes it an effective leave in oil so hair can be nourished in desired areas in between your intensive hair oil treatments.
